Greggs employees were left in shock when a man walked in and placed an order for what might be the biggest bacon sandwich ever attempted—an incredible creation packing a jaw-dropping 7,600 calories. Competitive eater Craig Harker decided to challenge himself by consuming 100 rashers of bacon in a single sitting, all packed into an enormous bread roll so large that it barely fit inside a pizza box.
Greggs, a popular British bakery chain known for its steak bakes and a variety of vegan options, serves up some of the nation’s favorite comfort foods. But while most people enjoy a bacon sandwich or a pastry as an occasional indulgence, Craig took things to an entirely new level.
At 37 years old, Craig is no stranger to extreme food challenges. As a member of the British Eating League, he regularly pushes his limits. This time, he set out to conquer what could be the UK’s largest bacon sandwich. When he stepped into a Greggs location in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, and requested 100 slices of bacon in a single sandwich, the cashier was stunned and initially thought he was joking.
However, once it became clear that he was serious, the Greggs staff got to work assembling the massive meal. When it was finally presented to him, Craig had to pay £60 for the enormous order. But he wasn’t too concerned about the cost—especially since it came with full bottles of ketchup and brown sauce to help him power through the meal.
Known on social media as Dad Loves Food, Craig proudly displayed his gigantic sandwich, which stood nearly nine inches tall. He humorously dubbed it “Bacon Mount Everest,” telling his followers, “Look at that—it’s absolutely insane. It’s like an entire pig in a box.”
Video footage captured Craig struggling to lift the gigantic sandwich, barely able to grasp its overwhelming size. Since eating something that large in-store wasn’t practical, he decided to take it home to attempt the challenge in his own kitchen.
With a bottle of Coca-Cola by his side to help wash it down, Craig dug into the towering bacon-filled behemoth. At first, he made good progress, devouring layer upon layer of crispy, salty bacon. But as the challenge wore on, the sheer volume of meat started to take a toll on him. After consuming 38 rashers, Craig had to throw in the towel. “As for 100 slices, I think it’s impossible,” he admitted.
He speculated that only elite competitive eaters—maybe someone like Max vs. Food or another British Eating League champion—could finish the entire sandwich, but he certainly couldn’t. “I think I’ll stick to the smaller ones next time,” he said with a laugh.
Rather than let the remaining bacon go to waste, Craig shared the leftovers with his friends and family. He even compared holding the massive sandwich to “holding a newborn baby.” His kids eagerly gathered around, waiting to grab their share of the leftovers.
Craig, who also owns a pub, acknowledged that even his most experienced eaters would struggle with a sandwich of this size. He had previously gained attention for stuffing 51 rashers of bacon into a single sandwich, but this attempt was a step too far.
Reflecting on his experience, Craig explained, “As part of the British Eating League, it can be hard to find new challenges, so I have to create them myself.” He admitted that this was by far the biggest bacon sandwich he had ever attempted and that even the world’s top competitive eaters would struggle to take on something of this magnitude.
For those wondering just how many calories this colossal creation contained, here’s the breakdown:
- 100 slices of bacon – 7,600 calories
- One stottie (bread roll) – 172 calories
- Ketchup – 20 calories
Total Calories: 7,792
After the experience, Craig made one thing clear: “I never want to look at a piece of bacon again.” While his passion for food challenges remains strong, this might be one bacon sandwich he won’t be attempting again anytime soon.
