Plus-size influencer leaves people divided after claiming she was ‘body-shamed’ at Disney World

A plus-size influencer has recently sparked an intense debate online after claiming she was body-shamed during a visit to Disney World. Gracie Bon, a 28-year-old known for her outspoken support of body positivity, shared her upsetting experience on social media, revealing how a fun day with her siblings turned into a painful ordeal. According to Gracie, her trip was ruined by constant stares, mocking laughter, and even strangers taking pictures of her without permission. She said that instead of enjoying the attractions and making memories, she found herself targeted and judged by other park visitors because of her size. Gracie, who has built a following by encouraging self-love and acceptance, questioned whether she was alone in feeling that people were uncomfortable seeing someone like her in a public, joyful space like Disneyland. “Is it just me,” she asked her followers, “or do people really not know how to handle seeing big girls like me at Disneyland?” She explained that as soon as she entered the park, she noticed the constant looks from other guests and decided to reclaim the narrative by filming them in return.

What shocked Gracie most was that this all took place in the United States, a country where, as she pointed out, nearly 40 percent of people are considered plus-size. She admitted she didn’t expect this kind of reaction, especially in a society that frequently discusses inclusion and acceptance. Gracie’s experience at Disney World wasn’t an isolated incident. She has previously spoken out about similar encounters at other Disney parks. In earlier posts, she described how people openly stared at her and took pictures as if she were some kind of spectacle. “I was body-shamed during my trip to Disneyland,” she wrote in one post. “People wouldn’t stop staring at my curvy body, but that’s what makes me unique. It’s time to stop body-shaming. We all have different shapes and sizes, and that’s what makes us special.” In one of her TikTok videos, Gracie documented the unwanted attention she received and used the caption to express her frustration. “It’s time to stop body-shaming others,” she urged her followers. “Today I was at Disneyland. I wanted to enjoy the day with my siblings, but our fun was ruined because people kept mocking my body size. The worst part is they were teaching their children to do the same.”

Gracie went on to explain that the negativity lasted all day. “People kept taking pictures of me, giving me nasty looks, or outright laughing at me,” she said. Anticipating criticism, Gracie addressed people who might say she was overreacting or responsible for her own treatment. “I know some people might think I’m exaggerating or that this is my fault because I’m a big girl,” she said. “But this is the body God gave me, and I have to appreciate every part of myself. Even if you’re sick or look different, no one should be bullied because of their appearance.” Gracie ended her message with a reminder about respect. “I would never say anything negative about someone else’s body,” she said. “Respect is key. This should be a safe space where everyone feels comfortable. I wasn’t doing anything wrong; I was just existing. At the end of the day, I just want to have fun like everyone else. If you don’t like something about me, stop hating and keep it to yourself.”

Gracie’s video sparked a wave of mixed reactions. Some people expressed little sympathy for her experience. One person commented, “You weren’t born this way, so don’t complain about body-shaming. You did this to yourself.” Another added, “God didn’t give you all that weight. Stop bringing God into this. Your doctor is the one who told you what’s going on.” Despite these criticisms, Gracie also received plenty of support from fans and strangers alike. One person wrote, “Don’t worry about them. You’re beautiful the way God made you! People are just jealous because you’re gorgeous!” Another supporter said, “I’m so sorry people can be so cruel and judgmental when they have no right to be. You are beautiful.” Yet another person shared a different perspective, saying, “You can’t totally blame people. It’s hard not to look. When we see something new for the first time, we stare. It’s human nature.”

This isn’t the first time Gracie has faced controversy for her views. Previously, she pushed back against online trolls who told her to “buy two seats” when she advocated for airlines to offer wider seats for plus-size passengers. She dismissed the suggestion outright, saying, “Buying two airplane seats doesn’t solve my problem. Planes are too small for adults. It’s 2024—bodies are changing, and planes should too.” Gracie stood her ground and added, “I’m not going to lose weight just to be able to fly. People need to offer me another solution, or airlines need to make bigger planes.” Despite the backlash, Gracie remains committed to promoting body positivity and challenging societal norms about beauty and size. She continues to call for more inclusion and respect, both in public spaces and in everyday life.
